Call for Expressions of Interest  –  Malgana People wanting to study, Conservation and Land Management

Closing date extended to 17 August 2018

In February 2018, Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) assisted Malgana people in being awarded funding through the newly created Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) – Aboriginal Ranger Program. This funding will help Malgana people work towards their aspirations relating to the management of their land and sea country in the Shark Bay area.

As part of this successful proposal, there are currently six (6) positions available to Malgana people who are interested in undertaking accredited training – Certificate I and II in conservation and land management – through the Central Regional TAFE (Geraldton campus). Please note, we have organised for TAFE lecturers to deliver week-long training units to the selected students in Shark Bay, and the funding agreement includes provisions to cover the travel and accommodation costs for up to four (4) students residing outside of the Shark Bay area who will need to travel to attend modules.

It is envisaged that the successful applicants will wish to go on to pursue careers as Malgana Rangers. However, please note, if successful in receiving one of the training spots, this does not guarantee any future employment. The current funding only covers tuition fees, travel and accommodation, and subsistence costs relevant to the training being provided.

If you are a Malgana person who is interested in learning about conservation and land management, and are committed to completing the Certificate I and II qualifications, we would like to hear from you!

Please provide a one- to two-page letter detailing:
